The Blessing

A new song from Elevation Worship has undone me this week.
Carmen Shenk

I’ve been listening to a brand new song this week. It’s very simple: “The Lord bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” I wondered why something so positive and affirming would undo me to the extent that it has. This episode became a conversation about the marriage of truth and grace in the person of Jesus. I pray that this episode blesses you.

Please scroll down to experience the song that started this conversation… May His favor be upon you!

019 The Lord Bless You And Keep You

I’ve been undone by a new song on YouTube this week called “The Blessing” with Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes, and I wanted to share a few thoughts about why I think it hit me so hard.  I think some of this may resonate with you.  And remember, He is for you!

Today I’m talking about a song that has undone me this week. I listen and weep and soak up the grace of “The Blessing” straight from the heart of Father. God bless the amazing folks over at Elevation Worship, LOVE them!

We’ve gotten a lot of truth without grace in our culture, and it’s done a lot of damage. It’s time to understand the nature of the Word so that when we apply it – we apply it with both truth and grace… for without grace, truth can be weaponized. And when that happens, it takes people down, and that breaks God’s heart. Far too much of that has happened in recent years (ANY of that happening it too much!). If that’s happened to you, I simply want to stand in for the person or persons who have hurt you and ask you to please forgive me. I’m so sorry you experienced the dark side of the truth – truth that was leveled at you like you were a baseball and the truth was the bat. I’m sorry. Father is present and wants you to know that it’s time that you felt The Blessing again… it’s time you knew that it wasn’t God that knocked you out of the park. That was religion, and I’m sorry. You’re ready to come to God, not to religion. You’re ready to experience the favor of God who loves you. You’ve been told He’s condemning. You’ve even seen those signs “God hates (fill in the blank)” but I just want you to know that sign didn’t speak for God. God did not send His Son in the the world to condemn… that’s just not what Jesus was sent to do! And if Jesus wasn’t sent to do that, then neither am I! That’s the good news! You are loved my friend. Soak in this powerful song and be blessed.
